Another Recruitment Interview Scam. Now in the name of Sony Electronics Limited

by Guest 5/19/2010 1:16:00 PM

Last few months have seen  active mass mails by spammers baiting people

looking for jobs by offering high paying employment in different companies.

The spammers  bombarded netspace with Interview Offers by email in the name

of  Sansui Technologies India and later IFB Industries Limited. Due to wide publicity

given to this fake recruitment, the criminal gang has changed company name in the

scam mail  to “Sony Electronics Limited”

In all cases the job description is same. Only the name of  Company, Account Number

and name of the people and phone numbers are changed! The spammers describe

these companies as coming up with large expansion and hence require qualified manpower.

Many people have fallen for the scam which asks users to pay certain amount by DD.

You have to deposit an initial security amount in favor of Company HRD for the sum of

Rs.6,250/- This is refundable interview security against your interview management by

HRD. Company will pay all the expenditure to you at the time of face-to-face meeting

with you In Company.”  The Scam mail says.

Its unfortunate that people fall for this scam where the mails are from some third parties

and people collecting money are all crooks operating with fake identities.

They have created mail ID   ending with digitalbuzz.com instead of using Yahoo or Gmail

to  make it look genuine.

The same people may be behind another recruitment scam in the name of GCI Enterprises

which targets lower level staff.

According to the fake mail which  is being sent to millions in India right now, the fraudsters have

short listed only 24 people for employment at Sony Electronics Limited! But mail goes to millions!

Each person who receives is fooled into believing that he is one of the 24. They fail to understand

that the same mail is received by lakhs of people and many may in fact be sending DDs to the crooks.  The fake recruitment mail ends with

“Mr. Rajesh Gupta
Sony Electronics Limited.
Mobile, CTV and Computer Manufacturing Division G – 82, UNIT – II, MIDC, Industrial Area, Near

Power House, PUNE. - HRD. Contact Nos. – 08954051833, 09528820282”

Complaints-India, a consumer awareness forum, has cautioned people from making any payment

to any one offering employment.

All such recruitment scam mails should be reported to  CBIs Cyber Crime Division: Superintendent of Police,

Cyber Crime Investigation Cell  E-Mail: cbiccic@bol.net.in   with Subject as “Sony Recruitment Scam

with Bank Account Number “

The concerted effort of consumer forums is making these scamsters to change company names,

account number etc. But the police has to act based on complaints received by them.

Surge in Internet Usage Propels India to 5th in Exposure to Malware - Symantec

by Guest 4/24/2010 1:24:00 AM
The surge in Internet usage in India  was up  by 20 per cent last year. This  was accompanied by an increase in exposure to malicious activity, moving India from the 11th place in the global ranking in 2008 to 5th place in 2009. India accounted for 15 per cent of all malicious activity in the Asia-Pacific-Japan (APJ) region, an increase from 10 per cent in 2008, says Symantec Corporation’s latest Internet Security Threat Report.  Nineteen per cent of attacks targeting India originated in India itself in 2009, indicating the rise of India as a country of origin and a target for more sophisticated attacks according to Symantec India.  The report said that emerging economies such as India, Brazil, Poland, with growing broadband infrastructures, would account for ever-increasing proportions of attacks within specific categories of malware. India, for instance, was ranked very high for Zeus infections. Zeus is a $700 malware attack kit available for sale in the thriving $276mn underground economy that makes information theft easier for cyber criminals. Such kits allow even unskilled attackers to break into online crimes. More alarmingly, malware available in the market is  threatening to overtake that of genuine software  As Web attacks continue to grow unabated, the number of attacks out of India too has increased. In fact, the Symantec report says India ranks second in the APJ region for the number of Web attacks, accounting for 16 per cent in the region —a significant increase from the previous reporting period when India accounted for less than 1 per cent of the attacks. India also ranks second globally for malicious code, with only the US accounting for more malicious code than India.
One per cent of the world phishing hosts   and 7 per cent of the regional phishing hosts were in India. The exploding internet usage have brought in millions of new users with many falling for phishing attacks as reported by Complaints India – Online Scam Complaints
India saw an average of 788 bots per day during 2009. There were 62,623 bot-infected computers observed in the country, with Mumbai figuring at the top with 50 per cent, followed by Delhi at 13 per cent and Hyderabad at 7 per cent.

India is the third highest spam-originating country in the world, contributing 4 per cent to the worldwide spam volumes. However, India ranked first in the APJ region, contributing 21 per cent to the regional total.

Focus is back on Hyderabad. IT Companies are back with Recruitment / Expansion Plans

by Guest 4/24/2010 1:20:00 AM
Hyderabad had emerged as a strong contender to Bangalore as India’s strongest IT hub with proactive policies of then Chief Minister of AP, Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu.  It managed  to take the focus away from Bangalore in 2008 and most part of 2009. But  the Telangana State agitation which paralyzed the city for several weeks, during last quarter of 2009 and in January 2010 made the IT industry jittery. Several companies put off their expansion plans in Hyderabad. Many started moving staff to Bangalore and other cities. However, with the city remaining calm, business is back and is once again emerging as the most favored state for information technology (IT) giants.IT majors have announced huge expansion plans that will create three lakh new jobs according to the State Govt. For the first time since the Telangana agitation  started, two   multinationals have shown interest about opening their India operations centers in Hyderabad. JP Morgan and the United Health Group will set up their units at Raheja’s SEZ at Madhapur. Existing companies like Tata Consultancy, Wipro, Accenture, Infosys, Virtusa and Honeywell too have informed the government that they are going ahead with their expansion plans in spite of disturbances. Recently,  Facebook announced opening of their first offshore development center in Hyderabad.Mindspace’s first phase is full with units and they are going ahead with their second phase of SEZ near New Hyderabad Airport.   TCS has also started construction for the Gachibowli centre expansion. Infosys, Wipro and Accenture have received permission from the government for their expansion projects with the first two presenting plans to recruit 3,700 people this season. TCS has informed  the government that it will recruit 7,000 people during its expansion. This is in addition to the recruitment proposed for the Tishman Speyer International Development Centre. The company will employ 2,500 people for this centre. New facilities of Virtusa are under various stages of completion and are expected to start operations in two months.Hitec City & Gachibowli, the  IT hub of  Hyderabad is free of traffic bottlenecks. There is very good connectivity to Airport. At least 10 Malls and Multiplexes have come up within a radius of 12 Kms from Hitec City. Hyderabad has well planned residential areas. Unlike other Metros the real estate rates in Hyderabad  remain reasonable. The weather is great  except for 2 months.Hyderabad has major development centers of companies like Microsoft, IBM, Perot, Accenture,  Cognizant, HP, Templeton, Google, Amazone,  TCS,   Oracle, Infosys, Wipro, Mahindra Satyam, CA,   Infotech,   Softsol, Polaris, Nvidea,  Birlasoft, etc .  HMDA (Hyderbbad Metro Development Agency) which was the catalyst in the emergence of Hyderabad as an IT destination, by its quick planning and development of large scale infrastructure facilities in the west of Hyderabad  has announced plans for expanding the   highly successful Financial District  in Gachibowli by building  infrastructure   nearby  Tellapur.  The Financial District houses, apart from others,  ICICIs gigantic 25 floor structure which is getting ready for occupation.    Hyderabad should be on the radar of young executives in IT as well as other industries.  Go ahead and be there to be recruited for jobs in Hyderabad.

ISRO burns US$75Million. India’s First Satellite Launch Vehicle with Indigenous Cryogenic Engine Disintegrates.

by Guest 4/16/2010 1:19:00 AM
Idia’s effort  to launch Geo Synchronous Launch Vehicle ( GSLV-D 3)  with  homegrown cryogenic engine, was undone by massive failure of the cryogenic engine. A successful mission would have  would taken India into the elite club of space-faring nations comprising the United States, Russia, certain European countries, Japan and China who possess the cryogenic technologyThe GSLV flight was to have placed the 2.2 Tonne advanced communication satellite GSAT-4, into Geo Transfer Orbit.

The 49-metre tall three-stage Geo Synchronous Launch Vehicle blasted off at 4.27pm at the end of a 29-hour countdown but minutes later, the cryogenic engine which was to fire and take control from the initial liquid propellant stage, failed to ignite, resulting in mission failure. The space vehicle tumbled uncontrollably and disintegrated. Obviously, the mission achieved little, except to prove that ISRO has not been able to demonstrate advanced indigenous technologies though millions of dollars of tax payers money is being burned, every year, to support the hugely manned  organization. Within minutes of the historic failure and without even going into the reasons,  ISRO had no qualm in claiming that it will be ready to test again within a year.   ISRO  had invested Rs.330 Crores (Approx US$ 75 Million)  on the Project.  Its not sure whether this includes the fat pay and allowances of the work force. Obviously, since the  tax payers in India seldom ask questions, ISRO need not bother about  fund requirement for the next adventure!   Incidentally Chandrayan1, the moon mission,  had to be aborted several months in advance and it  damaged the country's   space exploration program.  “The 100 million U.S. dollar moon mission survived for only 315days. It was scheduled for two years.   It's a great loss to India's space explorations. The abandoning of the mission has dashed the country's most ambitious effort in space explorations. It was a major boost to the country's space program, particularly with India competing with Asian nations like China and Japan in this field," said space analyst R.K. Roy. Contrary to  ISRO’s explanation that Chandrayaan's orbit around the moon had been raised from 100km to 200km in May this year for a better view of the moon's surface (sic), it was  revealed later  that this had to be done because of a miscalculation of the moon's temperature that had led to faulty thermal protection and eventually the satellite could not be saved, and was virtually “fried” in space.  While critics even within ISRO, confirmed that the mission was a huge failure, the  then chief of  ISRO, Mr Madhavan Nair said  it was a great success. “We could collect a large volume of data, including more than 70,000 images of the moon. In that sense, 95 percent of the objective was completed”. No wonder critics wondering how 95% of mission objectives could be completed with mission surviving less than half its intended life!ISRO had tried to bask in the glory of American payload (moon Impact Probe)  on the mission,  finding water on Moon, claiming all over the place including the national television that Chandrayan found water on Moon! That was like  driver of a truck claiming Nobel Prize since his  truck had carried scientific instruments which was used in research.  ISRO can not brush aside failures (example: Loss of INSAT 4C  and `strap-on' fire mishap suffered by the GSLV D1), camouflaging them as mere technical hitches. The country needs valid answers for the string  failures, which have burned  millions of dollars. Govt. of India should not get carried away by the  technical  jargon mouthed by ISRO. It needs to make ISRO officers accountable for the failures.  Heads need to roll in ISRO.

Wireless Video Conference Service on RCOM

by Guest 3/17/2010 11:59:00 PM
RCom and Polycom forge partnership
Wednesday, March 17, 2010

MUMBAI,INDIA:Reliance Communications, India’s largest and only telecom operator offering nationwide CDMA and GSM mobile services, has forged a partnership with Polycom Inc., the global leader in tele-presence, video and voice solutions, to introduce world's first wireless, high-resolution video conferencing service. The service will be marketed through Reliance ADA Group's retail arm, Reliance Webstore Limited.

Bundling the easy-to-use Polycom QDX 6000? video conferencing system with dedicated VPN connectivity through the Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ wireless broadband data card, the service significantly lowers the price barrier to adopting video conferencing and is expected to be a mass enabler of video conferencing usage across multiple industry verticals in India.

The release adds that the jointly developed offering will extend affordable, plug-and-play video conferencing to organizations of all sizes, enabling them to realize immediate productivity and efficiency benefits from real-time, face-to-face visual communication. Besides small and medium enterprises (SMEs), education, event management, media & entertainment, and hospitality are among the sectors likely to take advantage of the flexible and affordable video conferencing service developed by Reliance and Polycom.

Reliance Webstore Limited already offers wired video conferencing services to over 1500 corporate clients through its network of over 200 video conference suites at Reliance World stores across the country.

Sarup Chowdhary, Director and CEO, Reliance Webstore Limited said, “Reliance World operates the world's largest network of video conferencing suites. Through our alliance with Polycom, we are making video conferencing a simple plug-and-play operation that can be deployed and used virtually anytime, anywhere.”

The Polycom QDX 6000 video conferencing system delivers high-resolution video and CD-quality audio, along with simple-to-use content sharing capabilities – even at a bandwidth of 256 kbps. Customers of the wireless video conferencing service will be able to connect to any industry standards-based video conferencing system, anywhere in the world. The wireless nature of the service also makes it suitable for out-of-office events. Using this service, even family events like weddings, parties and ceremonies can be webcast live by event managers on a pay-per-use basis.

Hansjoerg Wagner, vice president and managing director, Polycom Asia Pacific, said, “The wireless video conferencing solution jointly developed by Polycom and Reliance is truly a unique innovation on a global scale. Although mobile broadband exists in many markets, India is the first country in the world to deliver a wireless video conferencing service. Through our partnership with Reliance Communications, and our relationships with other leading vendors in the Unified Communications ecosystem, Polycom sees that visual communications will be ubiquitous within two to three years.”

Leveraging Reliance Webstore's extensive retail reach, the service is being commercially rolled out in over 40 Indian cities. The service will be expanded to more cities in a phased manner. The Wireless Video Conferencing service will ride on Reliance Communications’ telecom infrastructure backbone. Reliance Communications’ extensive pan-India, next generation, integrated, convergent digital network spans over 190,000 route kilometers of fibre optic cable systems. This network is capable of supporting best-of-class services spanning the entire communications value chain.

Vrajesh Shelat, Head – Wireless Data Business, Reliance Communications Ltd. said “Our robust pan-India network is equipped to deliver a lifelike video experience over a secure Virtual Private Network connectivity. Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ is well-equipped to handle the taxing demands of video conferencing. The launch of the world's first high-resolution wireless video conferencing service further reinforces Reliance’s capability of delivering innovative solutions. The corporate sector, especially the growing Services and SME sectors, will benefit greatly from this offering.”

The out-of-the-box solution will be offered at a price point below Rs 2 lacs and will be powered by Reliance's Video Conferencing service including the countrywide network of video conferencing suites at Reliance World. A connectivity plan of about Rs 1500 per month has been specially designed for this service. This plan covers 10 GB of usage in a month. Additional usage will be billed at the rate of 50 paise per MB. Reliance will also offer this service on an affordable pay-per-use basis
