Adobe strikes back at Steve Jobs in war with Apple

by Guest 5/14/2010 11:51:00 PM

Software major Adobe has hit back at Apple over the latter's refusal to allow its widely used Flash video product to run on smartphone iPhone and tablet computer iPad, says a media report.

According to The Times, Adobe placed advertisements on popular technology websites and in major United States newspapers responding to Apple chief executive Steve Jobs' criticism of Adobe technology.

Jobs has entered into a public spat with Adobe last month with scathing remarks on its Flash video programming technology. He said that it caused Apple products to crash and drained their battery life.

The report said Adobe displayed in the ad 'we (heart) Apple'. It further hit back with an ad campaign saying 'What we don't love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web'.More...

Five hidden dangers of Facebooking

by Guest 5/14/2010 11:42:00 PM

An expert in online privacy has drawn attention to the five dangers of sharing information on social networking site Facebook.

Joan Goodchild, senior editor of CSO (Chief Security Officer) Online, claims marketing efforts by the company often results in a compromise on account holders’ privacy, reports CBS News.

Goodchild noted five risks of using Facebook on ‘The Early Show on Saturday Morning.’ They are:

1. Your information is being shared with third parties

2. Privacy settings revert to a less safe default mode after each redesign

3. Facebook ads may contain malware

4. Your real friends unknowingly make you vulnerable

5. Scammers are creating fake profiles

Earlier this week, 15 privacy and consumer protection organizations filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, alleging that the site manipulates privacy settings to make users personal information available for commercial use.

Q+A: What does Ambani gas row ruling mean?

by Guest 5/8/2010 11:17:00 PM

The Supreme Court on Friday backed billionaire Mukesh Ambani in a gas pricing dispute with his younger brother Anil -- a ruling that could have far-reaching implications on energy policy for Asia's third-largest economy.

WHAT DOES THE VERDICT MEAN?

It gives the government control over pricing and marketing of a politically sensitive resource. The state-set price of $4.2 per million metric British thermal unit (mmBtu) will be binding. The price is unlikely to rise or fall because of the ruling.

For Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries (RELIANCE.NS : 1032.8 +24.95), India's most valuable listed company, it will mean billions of dollars in potential profits on gas sales from the Krishna Godavari basin off the east coast, which it operates. More...

Nokia, the world's top handset maker, broadened its patent battle against Apple on Friday to include the iPad, deepening the legal battle between the two smartphone rivals.

Nokia said it had filed a complaint in the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging that Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G products infringe five important Nokia patents.

The patents have not been covered in Nokia's previous actions against Apple. The two are in the midst of a major legal battle, which started last October when Nokia charged Apple for using its patented technologies without paying for them. More...

by Guest 5/8/2010 11:06:00 PM

U.S. employment grew at the fastest pace in four years in April as businesses ramped up hiring, suggesting the economic recovery was growing less dependent on government support.
