Ok, the rain was wonderful, no denying that. This is how it would be when it rains. The wonderful freshness I felt this morning was fantastic. So, what was so great about the rain last night?
Well, along with the feeling of freshness and the usual wonder and beauty of the rain, what I felt today was RELIEF! Yes, it was a big relief! Did you feel that too today
What relief could it be? It was relief from heat. Relief from hot hot Bangalore. Did you feel that? It felt so good to once again walk on the streets of Bangalore and not feel hot or not dash for the shades of trees and buildings to hide under or not get scorched. It just felt wonderful.
Ok, I know it was raining and all. We have seen and enjoyed rain always. But this was different. It was like we were famished, actually starved and then suddenly there is humungous amount of food available for us. I am a real foodie and so such an example is only normal J
Maybe those who travel by AC cars may not understand this. But for those who walk the streets of Bangalore or ride bikes on the streets of Bangalore will understand this.
And then I suddenly realized that the next generation, my children, grandchildren, or maybe even I, may not be able to enjoy the pleasure of the once old Bangalore again. Is it too late? Is the harm done irreversible? Can’t we do anything about it?
The truth is I don’t know. Because I am not an expert and I don’t know who to turn to?
Why can’t we do something about it? Why are we so immune to what is happening around us? Why are we so immune to all the screams from environmentalists?
I want to see the wonderful Bangalore again. I want to feel the joy, the calm and the freshness again. Not just when it rains in Bangalore, but always, as it used to be once upon a time.
So, let us make it happen. What say, folks?
And if you are asking me what has to be done to make a change. I am not so sure myself, because, again, I am not an expert. I just know we are making a mess and that we have to turn the tide around.
I can give a few pointers for starters, maybe, no I am sure, others can give great ideas they have.
- Save energy...do not waste energy...do not switch on electrical stuff unnecessarily.
- Use water efficiently…do not waste water…
You may have a lot of money to pay the electricity or water bill, but that is not the point, let us try not to waste.
- Walk as much as possible for short distances…avoid using pollution bound vehicles whenever possible…or use bicycles or electric vehicles. I really think the use of cycles could be a real boon for Bangalore.
- How about car pooling, using public transport?
- Plant trees whenever possible.
- Do not laugh at people who are giving an effort.
- Ness has taken a lot of initiatives for this. I think we need a concrete list of things we should do, should not do. This list should probably be stuck on each person’s desk. We have an Emergency Contact Numbers list at each person’s desk, I think we also need an “Emergency Steps to a better Bangalore” list stuck at each person’s desk.
