Microsoft Surface in action!

Have you heard about the Microsoft Surface™?

If yes, then you have a news - AT&T has become the first company in the world to bring Microsoft Surface™ to life in a retail environment, giving customers the ability to explore their mobile worlds using touch and device recognition technology. Beginning April 17, visitors to AT&T stores in New York City, Atlanta, San Antonio, and San Francisco are experiencing Surface in person. Read more about this CNET Review.

If you have not heard about Surface, it is a table like device with a touch screen like display on top of it. Microsoft is starting an user-interface revolution with this rich multimedia device. Users can interact with Surface easily and can even exchange media/data easily as Surface has the capability to interact with various devices at one go. MS plans to install it in retail outlets of its partners giving them a great marketing tool. You might want to take a look at their super cool website at www.surface.com.

I am eagerly waiting for it to enter India. As the site promises, I guess, it would be cool to play with it. Talking about the site, you might want to notice that it (the jazzy UI) is made entirely in Macromedia Flash while Microsoft is all out promoting its new Silverlight as THE COOLEST technology.. any Microsoft insiders reading this? You better search for an answer.. Smile

Prasad,

Imagine this, you go to a coffee shop with your friends. Instead of a regular table, you find a table with a screen on top. You tap your fingure on it, it will respond. Instead of looking through the regular menu/catalog to give order, you can see a multimedia menu of the coffee shop. You could see images, animation, movie along with music. You would also get lot more details of each item.

Not just that, you put your mobile phone on the table, it will recognize that device. If you would like to show some of the cool things you have in your mobile, you can do it easily with few taps. You can show images, zoom them, play with them.. You can also show video, show mails/data... What more, you can exchange your contacts on your mobile with your friends easily...

These are just few possibilities. The actual features are lot more. Just visit www.surface.com, you could see lot of these in action.

After reading all the features, I used to think, will there be any real use with this commercially... I got the answer. AT&T is using this to sell their mobile phones. It did create lot of talk and excitement with customers. A great tool for marketing!!
