Saina Nehwal came up with a scintillating display in the final of the Hong Kong Super Series to storm her way to third Super Series title in 2010. In an exhilarating final, the sensational Saina overpowered the Chinese World No.5 Shixian Wang in 3 hard fought games to finish off the best year in her career.
It was billed as the revenge match for India's best badminton sensation Saina Nehwal. As she took to the courts in the final of the Hong Kong Super Series, Saina was keen to settle scores with Chinese World No. 5 Shixian Wang for the hammering she received in the quarterfinals of the Word Championship earlier this year.
Saina began on a slow note as Shixian ran a 2-0 early lead in the first game. Although the Indian ace tried her best to regain some momentum, it proved short-lived as the third seed proved very good at the net to go into a comfortable 10-7 lead. The Chinese girl, who earlier upset the World No. 1 Xin Wang in the semi final, built on the momentum by reeling off 4 points in a row to establish a commanding lead of 14-9.
Saina then displayed the grit and steely resolve that has catapulted her to the status of a world beater in badminton. Playing attacking badminton, Saina put her opponent on the backfoot and pulled off 4 points in a row to claw her way right back in the contest. In a game that saw fortunes swinging like a pendulum, it was then the turn of Shixian to dictate terms as she closed out the first game 21-15 in twenty minutes. While both players virtually matches each other for smashes and net points during the first game, Shixian came up with 6 clear winners to just 1 from Saina.
